NicheLingo is the ultimate app for busy individuals who crave efficient learning. With flash card lessons and video content, one will master their chosen niche in no time. To keep users motivated, this app provides features like chat with your AI, pronunciation tests, and sentence completion. Set daily goals and receive reminders to keep users on track.
Let me explain how I planned to incorporate the design thinking process into the NicheLingo app's development.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The user requires a way to improve their communication skills in their field.
To begin, I evaluated a few existing mobile vocabulary-learning applications to gain a better understanding of the field and what already existed (our competitors).
COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
Identified 3 mobile applications that focus on vocabulary learning. I have downloaded the applications to my phone, and while using them, I have outlined the positives and negatives of each application.
Applications for the analysis:
Memrise
Vocab.com
WordPower
Summary
Overall :-
Memrise provides comfort but lacks consistency and guidance.
Vocab.com offers gamified learning with some usability challenges.
WordPower, for beginners, needs improvements for user engagement.
After analyzing competitors, I aimed to identify my target audience, including 25- to 35-year-olds in online courses, people in their 40s in on-ground courses, language learners, and more
USER RESEARCH
I conducted interviews with three potential users to gain insights into their needs and preferences, aiming to enhance the design of a vocabulary app. I have summarized the interviewees based on their actions, thoughts, and feelings during the interviews.
Summary
With all of this information, I created a proto-persona
USER PERSONA
I created a proto-persona, Archie, using both qualitative and quantitative data obtained from user research. This persona will represent the target group and will serve as a reference point throughout the design phase, ensuring that the solution I create is tailored to meet their needs and goals.
Based on the user proto-persona, I identified two of the most important tasks and created user flows that depicted how I expected Archie to navigate the application's 'information space'
UserFlow and Task Analysis
When Creating user flows, I carefully selected user goals that align with the needs of our target persona.
Learning new words according to their niche
used learned words in association
Task 1 : User wants to learn new words related to their niche
Entry Point : Open an App
Success criteria : Learned new word related to niche.
Task 2 : User wants to use learned words in association
Entry Point : Home page
Success criteria : Their own Flash card
After identifying a persona, a problem, and the primary tasks necessary to reach a potential solution, I sketched wireframes and built a low-fidelity prototype
PROTOTYPE
To validate my initial design decisions, I conducted usability testing with a few potential users.
USABILITY TESTING & RESULTS
I conducted usability testing with three potential users to assess how effectively prototypes help people learn new vocabulary. I assigned direct tasks and presented a few scenarios for users to perform.
I received both positive feedback and constructive suggestions, which prompted me to reconsider my assumptions and enhance my design.
ITERATIONS
I revised the prototype based on the feedback

KEY TAKEAWAYS
1) In the UX design thinking process, each step is critical.
2) Placing users at the center of your design is critical to avoiding becoming overly absorbed as a user.
3) Usability testing provides valuable feedback during the early stages of a low-fidelity prototype.
4) UX design thinking is an iterative process; after each test, there is always room to improve your app.
5) Enjoy the process; it becomes more interesting with each stage.
